A carbon dioxide laser used in the operation is a recent innovation for treating burn victims. It vaporized the patch of burned skin with a powerful beam of light energy and coagulation the blood vessels as it went - meaning no bleeding during surgery.
Michael checked out of the Brotman Medical Center late the following night after visiting with fellow burn patients.

Hoefflin said Jackson would have some discomfort during his recovery but that once the wound heals there would be no scars.
